Lokapalas

The lokapalas are the "world-protectors" - four or sometimes eight deities that are installed on the outer gates of a yantra as the guardians of the directions. The deities chosen as world-protectors differs according to particular lineages.

For example, in one example of Sri Vidya ritual, the Lokapalas are given as:

3. Yama
4. Nirriti
5. Varuna
6. Vayu
7. Soma
8. Ishana
