Talk:Fehu

Fehu is a rune from the Futhark set.

It is a member of the first Aett, associated with the fertility goddess Freyja or her male counterpart Freyr.

Its phonetic value is "f".

Literal meaning is "cattle" or "livestock" and, therefore, "wealth" (cfr. the English word "fee").

Symbolic or divinitory meanings are as follows:

Upright: Success, usually material, whether won or earned. Because cattle were a mobile form of wealth, this may represent mobile goods and other intangibles, as opposed to othala (patrimony, domain) which would represent tangibles.

Reversed: the loss of this wealth, physical or otherwise.

While elemental and colour associations are not part of the historically known Runic lore, the feel of fehu has always been fairly green and Western-element earthy to me. Very, very physical.

The concepts seem very similar to Pentacles in the Tarot. - Elseware
