One of the Vanir, Germanic deities of nature and fertility. Daughter of Njord. Sister of Frey.

Freya, or Freyja, is best known as the goddess of love and sexuality. She also taught seidr magic to Odin and takes half the warriors slain in battle. She is often depicted riding her boar Hildisvini, but she also has a chariot drawn by two cats. (The cats' names and species are not given in surviving mythology.) Her most prized possession is the Brisingamen, a necklace she purchased from the four dwarves who wrought it by spending a night with each in turn. Another possession often mentioned in the old stories is a falcon cloak that enabled her to shapeshift.
