Haniel (Hebrew: <templatestyles src="Script/styles_hebrew.css" />הניאל‬, lit. joy of god or Hebrew: <templatestyles src="Script/styles_hebrew.css" />חַנִּיאֵל‬, lit. grace of god; Coptic: ⲁⲛⲁⲛⲓⲏⲗ;[1] Arabic: عنيائيل‎, 'Anya'il) is an angel, often included in the seven archangels.[2] The name Haniel probably derives from Hebrew hana'ah, "joy," "pleasure" (qualities associated with Venus) + the suffix -el, "God." Haniel is one of the archangels encrypted in the Sigillum Dei Aemeth of Dr. John Dee and Edward Kelley. One of his main responsibilities is to ascend the prayers from the first heaven to the second, where she is one of the chief rulers.

She is usually depicted in a human form wearing emerald green robes and a big joyful smile on his face. In her hands, she holds a rose, lit lantern, and a thyrsus (a wand tipped with a pinecone). Haniel appears female more often than male.[3]

Hanael embodies vitality and optimism, directing people to stop looking for fulfillment in their circumstances and instead find it in god. She is also the Sacred Warrior. She fills us with humility, strength, courage, integrity, and a sense of purpose. Those under Aniel's protection are know to have good luck and tend to win competitions more often than not. Aniel aids those who are fighting for good and especially on behalf of children.[4]

Hanael is a patron of scientific knowledge and thought, delivering enlightening messages and fresh ideas. Aniel brings together spiritual and scientific forces to guide those in challenging life situations.[5] Her influence will awaken latent intuition and clairvoyance.[6]

Aniel is the angel of breaking old patterns, good or bad, giving guidance to make change as smooth as possible. Aniel may help break addictions and change our outlook on life. Using the law of attraction, she reveals karma and the best ways to erase it.[7][8]

She is the angel who transported Enoch to heaven in the Book of Enoch, where various archangels (including Michael and Raphael) gave him a heavenly tour before he became Metatron.[9]

Anael is said to reveal all mysteries of the past, present, and future. He responds quickly to his invocation and can further teach the science of merchants.

Haniel and Aniel

Sources conflict on whether Haniel and Aniel are the same entity, but there are no clear disambiguations and plenty of evidence to suggest they are. Sources talking about Haniel emphasize her role as the "angel of joy" while Aniel is more the "breaker of old patterns", which could be seen as two sides of the same aspect. One listed Aniel as a member of the Virtues, and asserted that the Virtues were ruled by Haniel (implying they were separate), though this could be a misunderstanding and they could be both a member and their ruler.[8] Most sources which give alternate spellings for Haniel list Aniel as one, but almost no sources given alternate spellings for Aniel.

Ars Theurgia

Anael appears in the Ars Theurgia as a demonic major duke of the night ruled by Gediel. They are only briefly mentioned and may either be a misclassification (as happened with many spirits and older deities) or refer to a different entity entirely.[10]

Symbolism

Hanael's rose is an ancient symbol of Venus known as the Rose of Venus; Venus' orbit in relation to Earth traces a five-pointed star every 8 years. Her lantern is a reference to a title of Venus, "the light bringer", as the brightest planet in the sky, lighting the way back to the divine.

Hanael's emerald green tunic relates to the alchemical color of Venus and the fertility of nature. The thyrsus is carried by the followers Dionysus, similarly evocative of fertility, pleasure, hedonism and renewal. On a deeper level, it alludes to the union of male and female energies activating the third eye.

The best time to call upon her is Friday, Venus' day, or in the hour of Venus.[11]
