Macrocosm

The concept of macrocosm and microcosm is that the large is mirrored in the small, and vice-versa. This is reflected in the axiom of Hermes Trismegistus which states, "As above, so below." Man himself is a microcosmic construct of the greater universe, as illustrated in the Kabalistic image of Adam Kadmon. This relationship is conveyed throughout the canon of western esoterica, which distinguishes itself from the eastern schools by materialism. The Eastern paths generally aim to strip away the material world to reveal the unity of existence, while the Western path seeks to draw down the macrocosm into the microcosm to restore holiness to the world. This is symbolized by the formula of the Hermetic Rosy Cross.

The macrocosm is represented by the number 6. It's counterpart (the microcosm) is represented by 5. This is the foundation of the Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram.
