Thurisaz is a rune from the Futhark set.

It is a member of the first Aett, associated with the fertility goddess Freyja or her male counterpart Freyr.

Its phonetic value is "th" (aspirated, as in "thunder").

Literal meaning is "troll" or "giant". The thursar were giants living in Jotunheimar, on the fringes of Middle-Earth, in Old Norse cosmology. The god Thor is their nemesis, eternally battling them to protect the world from their destructiveness.

Symbolic or divinitory meanings are as follows:

Upright: Destructiveness. A brute natural destructive force. Corruption and deceit.
