This is how "karma" works according to misunderstandings of the concept by overly simplistic and mistaken renderings of the term. Karma has more to do with resonance of intention than in any "you get what you put out" philosophy, which is bunk. People do horrible things all the time and get away with it. This understanding of karma seems to be more of a placebo for those who's sense of morality is limited by being brought up in a christian culture. Karma as understood from a buddhist point of view works in a manner similar to imprinting. Events in early life (or past lives, depending on your belief) plant karmic seeds in your basic ground that later flower and shape the way you percieve and interact with your environment. It has much more to do with attawchment, repulsion, and indifference than it does with action, although takes into consideration how the mind reacts to certain actions. it is the psychological impulse behind action that is karma. even thoughts can shape karma, as they change the way one resonates, and therefore what one percieves and attracts to oneself.

This is a particularly interesting problem this site will face. When spirituality and magical investigation and openess becomes knee-jerk religious beliefs. I think the best way to handle controversial beliefs like this is to allow the believer (or expert) to describe the truth (as they see it) as they wish, but make sure it's clear what teachings the ideas come from. (The nice thing about single universal truths is that there's so many to choose from). At some point I expect we'll end up with some ultimate "Chaos/crowley crowd" vs "fluffy wiccans" which should be interesting to try and resolve. Elseware 14:36, 17 Jun 2004 (BST)
