Mental projection is a form of astral projection or dreamwalking which utilizes meditation instead of sleep paralysis. It's known to lack full sensory immersion without practice.[1]

Methods

Cliff method

The cliff method is simply getting into a meditative state and then throwing one's mental self off a cliff to induce a dreamwalk, as done by the native Cheyenne tribe of North America.[1]

Candle method

Another native American method, softly focusing on a dim candle's flame while the rest of the world comes out of focus and your mind goes blank can induce mental projection.

Mindscape method

  1. Achieve a state of gnosis (trance with an empty mind)
  2. Find your inner self, or the mind's representation of who you are
    • This should come naturally, don't force it
  3. Continually working with your inner self should allow you to feel your astral body as distinct from your physical body
    • Those who skip this typically fail consistently
  4. Create a mindscape, a landscape representation of your mind
    • This can be reused for future attempts
  5. Designate a particular part of the mindscape as representative of your actual mind, and another as leading to the astral plane, such as a portal or door
  6. Designate an astral location and step through the astral representation

This method, while simple, may take a few tries to carry out successfully. It should result in a dual awareness of the physical and astral planes as a sort of split consciousness.[1]
