Gaia

One of many names for the Earth Mother, also sometimes referred to as the divine consciousness of the Earth itself. The name comes from the Greek "Gea" which means Earth.

There is also a scientific concept refered to as Gaia, which is the observation that natural systems on Earth are, to some degree, self correcting. That if you increase a predator then the prey will decrease and so the predator will stave and the balance will be restored. Of course, you can tip the scales past the point from where they can recover..
