The cup of Ukko
Ukon malja or Ukon Vakka is a ritual based on the ancient finnish worldview. The cup of Ukko was drunk in the honor of the great god Ukko when you wanted rain or otherwise favorable weather. Sometimes it was just to thank Ukko for his help. It was often drunk during Juhannus. The cup of Ukko might have contained beer. The first mention of drinking from the cup of Ukko is by Mikael Agricola in 1551, and the last from the 1900's (1800-1900) from Karjala (Karelia).
