A Dakini is a female celestial traveller or wisdom being particularly revered in Buddhism. Dakinis are usually pictured in one of three classes: peaceful, semi-wrathful and wrathful indicating something of their basic approach to teaching those who inspire them. A typical portrayal would be a nearly-naked red skinned woman wielding a machete dancing naked surrounded by flames. Dakinis are said to represent the union of bliss and emptyness which is why they are represented as beautiful.
