Category:Court cards (Tarot)
The court cards or royalty cards are 16 cards in the Minor Arcana of Tarot which are generally considered to represent people, or aspects of people. In traditional fortune telling as taught by Arthur Edward Waite and others, each card described a person of defined appearance and character. Today, they're usually interpreted less formally.[clarification needed] They may represent persons in two different functions: to show traits and attitudes of the client, the reader, or the person about whom the question is asked. The other possibility is that they mean third person that may play a role in the events. In the latter case, it may make sense to use the traditional, formal interpretations.
Variations
The court cards of most decks include the Page, Knight, Queen, and King, though some decks vary. Both the Golden Dawn deck and Thoth deck have Princess, Prince, Queen, and King as their court cards instead.
