The '''court cards''' or '''royalty cards''' are 16 cards in the [[Minor Arcana]] of [[Tarot]] which are generally considered to represent people, or aspects of people. In traditional [[fortune telling]] as taught by [[Arthur Edward Waite]] and others, each card described a person of defined appearance and character. Today, they're usually interpreted less formally.{{clarify}} They may represent persons in two different functions: to show traits and attitudes of the client, the reader, or the person about whom the question is asked. The other possibility is that they mean third person that may play a role in the events. In the latter case, it may make sense to use the traditional, formal interpretations.  

== Variations ==
The court cards of most decks include the [[Page (Tarot)|Page]], [[Knight (Tarot)|Knight]], [[Queen (Tarot)|Queen]], and [[King (Tarot)|King]], though some decks vary. Both the [[Golden Dawn deck]] and [[Thoth deck]] have [[Page (Tarot)|Princess]], [[Knight (Tarot)|Prince]], [[Queen (Tarot)|Queen]], and [[King (Tarot)|King]] as their court cards instead.
