also, did you get my email with the rune .gifs attached? It's been really wonky lately, and I can resend it whenever. I didn't forget about them, honest. Faething 04:44, 18 Sep 2003 (BST)

Hey, fey, I don't think I did... can you resend them. (elseware)

I've moved the discussions to a new Project:Discussions page to keep them in a more sane place.

Article of the day

Hi check Project:Article of the day, tell me what you think and edit the page if you think something needs to be changed/added. Do you think the Template:Article needs to be protected or not? Magos 11:50, 27 Dec 2004 (GMT)

Considering the rate of change of the site, I'd say that article of the day is probably to much effort to maintain. I don't think individual people visit often enough to warrent it.

I'd suggest maybe picking two articles every week? Ideally very different ones. That'd be easier to keep going in the long term. If we suddenly get wikipedia-popular then we can make it daily.

Also, it might be nice to emulate the wikipedia style of making a mini article linking to the full article. IMO bullet point link lists should only be used when the link is self evident. FUDOSI is not.

There's not been news in ages, so maybe the homepage could be rearranged? Elseware 11:41, 28 Dec 2004 (GMT)

This month in magick

Another thing which could go on the homepage is a short "this month" and "next month" article with info on things like solstices & equinoxis, famous aniversaries (kept to one or two) and upcoming events.

It could be done via templates so that the frontpage just has {{dec info}} {{jan info}} with another page showing all months. Elseware 11:54, 28 Dec 2004 (GMT)

May featured article

Sure. How about on Thelema in general, with links for books and for organizations? How long can it be, one or two paragraphs? How many links? Do they have to be "listed" after the paragraph (or two) or can they be inline? Aleph 02:58, 27 Apr 2005 (BST)

Hi Elseware

Thanks for taking an interest in what i wrote and encouraging me. At the moment real life is quite demanding for me, so i don't have much time to write here, but i will write when i can. It's a pity this place is so empty.

But i have a question: What is your policy regarding articles from the wikipedia? They have lots of good stuff there on occult topics. Is it ok to put their articles up here as seed for more if they fit in?

Eusebia 16:52, 10 Jul 2005 (BST)

Aricles from wikipedia: there's no point in trying to fill the same role as wikipedia. When starting out a page, it may be helpful to have the wikipedia as a start point, but you can't really teach about the occult without opinion and personal experience. I've always envisiged this site as a tool for sharing and discovering ideas, rather than a strict dry pile of facts. I think pages on Thirbles is fair enough as it's a magic-related tool. But the page on Olfaction is kinda beyond the remit of the wiki. That should just be a link to wikipedia, unless it's about the spiritual/magickal applications *primarily*. We don't want to have people maintaining pages more than a little beyond the scope of the wiki. Scientific things are better handled on a NPOV (neutral-point-of-view) wiki like wikipedia. Elseware 11:22, 11 Jul 2005 (BST)

I understand. I will turn Olfaction into something more relevant as soon as i find time for it. Eusebia 14:48, 16 Jul 2005 (BST)

Waite Copyright

From http://www.sacred-texts.com/tarot/faq.htm#uscopyright

The Rider-Waite-Smith cards and the Pictorial Key to the Tarot are in the public domain in the United States, any other statements notwithstanding.
In the EU & UK - Since Smith died in 1951, the Rider-Waite-Smith deck would not be public domain in the EU and UK until 2021 if she was acknowledged as the author of the work. However, apparently she did this as a 'work for hire', which means that they will be in the public domain in 2012, the 70th year after Waite's death. Since Waite died in 1942, the Pictorial Key to the Tarot won't be in the public domain in the EU and UK until 2012.
If you use the black and white images, scanned from the PKT, or the color images of the 1910 Pamela-A deck, at a website physically located in the United States, and your website is non-commercial in nature, you probably won't have any problems.

Depending on where the computer where the information is stored is located, the text of Waite's book may or may not be in the public domain. I believe that the info may be hosted by a company in Huntington Park, CA - within the US, which may make the text within the public domain. Morningstar2651 03:26, 19 Jul 2005 (BST)

MediaWiki

Esoteric and occult knowledge is something that fascinates me, so I was surprised to find out about this site via Wikipedia/Wikimedia. I can see myself spending some more of my free time here, adding and editing. However, if I could make a suggestion...

You might look into upgrading to MediaWiki 1.4.x or one of the 1.5 beta releases. I set up a copy of 1.5 on my laptop and have had no problems. I think most of the changes are back-end kinds of things (bug, features, etc). you might want to check it out. 162.1.143.49 21:20, 19 Aug 2005 (BST)

Just saying hi

Just joined - have a lot to add, I could be here a LONG time fininshing what needs doing.

Is there a general community forum page.

If not shall I add one?

Blessings

Sebbi

I'm glad to see the site back

and i'm sorry for not doing the article of the months last month and so. Real life is hard and i lack energy. Eusebia 12:52, 10 Nov 2005 (GMT)

hi elseware here. We had a *huge* fire. the server was OK but things took a while to get back online.

http://www.ecs.soton.ac.uk/fire2005/pictures/onfire.jpg but nobody hurt.

new special page

I have created the page Project:Vandalism alert. I hope you don't object to ordinary users creating pages in the sourceryforge namespace. If you don't like it feel free to delete/change it. I also didn't want to create more work for you, i can imagine that your time is limited, too. Especially after that fire. Must be hard to get things in order again. I just thought it helps. It sure does help me to have the ips of current spammers in one place. I'm so sick of that endless spam. Have a nice day anyway, Eusebia 11:18, 7 Dec 2005 (GMT)

Thanks for making me sysop, that is making things easier. I appreciate your trust and will do my best. Don't worry about not being evolved so much, it makes no sense to work much more than is fun on such projects. At the moment i'm enjoying it, so it's good i can help more. I will let you know if something happens so that i haven't so much time for sourceryforge any more. Eusebia 22:55, 10 Dec 2005 (GMT)

evolved? - i meant involved LOL. that happens if you try play computer games and edit simultaneously. Eusebia

SQL Dumps broken links

Elsewhere —

I get an HTTP 404 - File not found from both links on the SQL Dumps page. I'd like to grab a backup of my own from time to time, just in case. —Korihor 15:41, 15 Dec 2005 (GMT)

Thanks

Thanks for the kind note on my ideas page. I dig this project, and I especially like the stance you've taken with the content. Trying to enlist some of my magically active associates.—Korihor 01:47, 21 Dec 2005 (GMT)

Cities and an idea

Hey Elseware, thanks for pointing me to cities, that's really addictive. Bevore i found that, my favourite waste of inet time was http://deathball.net/notpron/notpron.htm, an online riddle. Ever since i found that one i had the vague idea to do a similar riddle with an occult theme. Now i finally got going on it, i'm thinking up riddles and painting illustrations like mad. (strangely, it was that history of middle earth book by Tolkien i got for christmass that inspired me like this, so expect the riddle to be a bit "otherworldly" lol).

If i really get the show on the road, could the riddle link to sourceryforge in a prominent place? If it's successful it could draw lots of attention to here. Do you think there could be a "riddle corner" in the wiki? I must go with geocities or another free web space because i REALLY can't afford to spend money on webspace at the time being, so it would be difficult to have a forum too. May take a few weeks bevore i have something i can present to the public, but i'll open a preview for you and others from here as soon as my first paintings are dry and i get some html done.

What do you think on that? Eusebia 16:08, 31 Dec 2005 (GMT)

Do you disagree or agree with any of my ideas and comments? Could I phrase things better?

nice page

Very interesting, In particular the information about the Elements and the Qlipoth.

I am quite interested in Rasayana and have written a small book on it

I don't know what Rasayana is.
Rasayana means the 'Ocean of Wisdom' and refers to Buddhist Alchemy

The book however was written from an Islamic perspective

Used to belong to the International Order of Kabbalists.

I take it you are non-Jewish and therefore unfamiliar with the oral transmission.

Not Jewish, no. Working from books. I find the tree of life facinating and read as many different peoples explanations and ideas about it as possible, to try and form one that works for me. That was one of the inspirations for starting this wiki in the first place. Obviously I know nothing of the Oral tradition. I have almost no interest in Gematria either.
The TOL is fun, with much depth. You have a great respect for the tradition and that is clearly a strong basis for most of us :-)

Are you a member of any orders? I believe the Golden Dawn had a group in Southhampton?

I don't currently have the time to commit to an order. I freely admit that I'm only interested at a hobby level, not as a serious lifestyle decision. I know members of GD, Thelema etc. and have never seen the effort to gain ratio as being worth it. I don't like cliquey things, cultish things even less.
I don't believe there is a GD group in my city, or I'd probably have met them by now. I've met a few of the people in Oxford group, but not in a couple of years.
Well SourceryForge is a magickal act (in part). Real adepts tend not to advertise but use outer groups as a way of becoming aware of the potential of individuals. I understand your reservations about group behaviour.

Which rituals do you practice? My own experience is with simple banishing rituals.

As a rule, I don't discuss rituals in open forums.
-) Probably the longest formal ritual I have been involved in took a week to perform but I would not wish to interfere with your rules so will not discuss it further.
