Uruz (or Ur) is a rune from the fuþark alphabet.

It is a member of the first Aett, associated with the fertility goddess Freyja or her male counterpart Freyr.

It's phonetic value is "u".

The rune represents the aurochs (bos primigenius), the wild cattle once common throughout Europe that went almost extinct in the late Middle Ages. Important in many mythologies,(connected with Zeus for example) it represents strength. The animal association is obvious in the form of the rune which resembles an inverted U.
