Psychic vampirism

Psychic vampirism is a practice done by some people or entities in which the emotional energy of those around them are drained in order to sustain the individual. This may be done without the psychic vampire's conscious intent. It's typically considered detrimental to the subjects, as the process may make them feel weak or emotionally void/irritable.
