The Fourth Horseman Theory

Hitler, Stalin, Mao and the Anti-Gandhi (we'll get to that in a minute) were the four horsemen of the apocalypse. India was ripe for fascist rule, ripe to obey a great leader, and was occupied by the British. Had a fascist leader appeared in India instead of Gandhi, India would have united under that leader and sided with the Axis against the occupying British. Such a large nation, aiding the Japanese fighting in the South Pacific, aiding the Nazis across the world, could potentially have tipped the balance of the war, destroying the Allies, and literally plunging the world into a thousand years of strife, darkness and mass murder.

Kalki is the 10th incarnation of Visnu, who rides a white horse, and lays waste to the morally degraded dregs of the world left over at the end of the Kali Yuga. That's the prophetic version of the Indian fasist leader we'll never see, because Gandhi replaced him. Somehow, instead of a destroying deity on a white steed, we got a skinny little fellow in a loincloth with a will of iron who kept India out of WW2 and spread peace wherever he went.

Gandhi was an avatar of Visnu. He saved us from the Thousand Year Reich.

So what's the "evidence"?

Well, some questions: who's traditionally obsessed with Aryan culture and racial supremacy? Before the Nazis, it was the Indians. Who owns the Swastika as their cultural symbol? Not the Germans. Seems like a lot of the energy which would have gone into the Indian Fascism got displaced in whatever process gave us Gandhi. The obsession with Aryan heritage is what moved into the wrath of Hitler against the Jews, but that's another story. But since you made it this far...

Many of the critical breakthroughs that lead to the creation of the Atomic Bomb were made by German or Austrian or Hungarian Jews. These were populations of Jews that simply did not survive the Holocaust.

Germany had the missle technology to deliver weapons for hundreds of miles. Had the Nazis done as the Germans had in the First World War and simply treated German Jews like any other kind of Germans, one possibility is that these scientists would simply have stayed in Germany, developed the bomb for the Nazis, and turned the course of the war. If the vision of Nazis With Atomic Weapons doesn't turn your blood cold, you are probably already dead.

As it is, the inhuman evil which Hitler poured forth against the Jews in Germany resulted in the Bomb being developed in America. It also resulted in the creation of the State of Israel, as a direct result of both early Jewish action in the middle east and a massive outpouring of support from the victorious allies. I have no opinion on the State of Israel, but I will simply note that the formation of the state is intimately tied in to the historical processes which put the Atomic Bomb in American hands.

Any magical reading of history is suspect for all of the usual reasons: "history is written by the victors" and doubley suspect because the links between cause and effect are hidden from the eyes of most historians. To suggest that some kind of high level "script" unfolded in the time around World War Two and that the Indians and the Jews collectively turned the course of history to save the planet from the Thousand Year Reich is, of course, insanity.

The loose thread here, by the way, is the Russians. Had Stalin and Hitler been on the same side it's possible none of this would have made any difference. So why did the Internationale fall apart, giving rise to two opposed National Socialisms rather than one International Socialism? Why did Hitler and Stalin make war with each other rather than focussing on destroying the rest of the world and bringing hell to earth for all of us? I don't know.

Hitler, Stalin and Mao killed something like one hundred and twenty million of the citizens of thier countries, not counting those who were killed in wars. Something like 1% of all the people who died in the 20th century died as a result of these beings incarnating on earth.

Of course, this would likely make Karl Marx something like the Anti-Christ, given that his political philosophy was at the root of the regimes of Soviet Russia, Communist China and National Socialism. I take this a little less seriously than the rest of the theory, but it is a logical conclusion to reach given the rest of the context.

As a magician, I think the Four Horsemen Theory is a potent antidote to all forms of hopelessness and depression - to realize that we are on the other side of the Apocalypse already, or that it was simply cancelled, and that we are now free to build the new world around us, that we are, in some sense, Risen simply by virtue of being born into a world which is headed away from the End Of The World rather than towards it.
