non (a-) injury (himsa) Ahimsa - non-injury or non-violence to all beings (in both thought, word and deed) is a doctrine common to Buddhist, Jain, and some Hindu sects. Ahimsa is considered one of the essential prerequisites to practice in Patanjali's system of yoga.
