Apsaras
The Apsaras (the term can be translated as "water that moves") are described as beautiful female spirits of the forests and waters, and are associated with the Gandharvas. They were considered to be artistically talented, particularly in the art of dancing. They danced for the pleasure of the gods, accompanied by the music of the Gandharvas. The Apsaras are said to have great powers of seduction, and are often attracted to, or despatched by the gods in order to distract, sages or sadhus who are practising tapas.
