In Norse Mythology the eight-legged horse of Odin, the god of poetry, war and magic. Interestingly, the world-tree that connects all the different worlds in Old Norse cosmology, is named Yggdrasill which literally means "Odin's horse". Both suggest strong ties between Old Norse cosmology and magical practices with shamanistic beleifs of Siberian and Northern-European peoples other than the Norse.

On a side note Sleipnir is said to be the child of Loki the trickster god and leviathian the sea monster.
