Nomen mysticum
The Nomen Mysticum is the secret name that a member of a mystical secret society may have.
Initiation
Usually the secret name is not given to the neophyte directly, but only after the completion of some sort of initiation.
The connection between the initiation and the application of a secret name seems to be considered very deep by most esoteric orders, and probably represents the mystery of rebirth (or birth - death - rebirth).
