His cojecture is they are dispersed Egyptians which carried with them esoteric knowledge learned in ancient Egypt. My contribution to the legend is a suggestion that, if you are interested, you locate an example of Dogon wood figure carving. The general form fits the typical African pattern of stylistic conformity to a tribal identity -with one unique feature. Notice the gaze on the face of these crude wooden statues. They peer at the Dog Star rising on the Eastern horizon.
