samprayada can be translated as 'lineage' - usually associated with a particular preceptor or doctrine. Although there are a wide variety of differing tantric samprayadas in practice, it is very difficult to say where one ends and another begins. It was not unusual for sadhakas to be initiated into several samprayadas. The sage Abhinavagupta for example, is reputed to have studied under at least twenty gurus during his lifetime.
